Civil Defense Litigation Attorney | Boston, MA

An attorney with civil litigation experience is sought for a Boston opportunity focused on civil defense litigation. The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of experience, although both more junior and more senior candidates will be considered. Defense litigation experience is strongly preferred, and experience representing corporations, businesses, professionals, insurers, or self-insured entities is highly desirable.

The role provides substantial hands-on responsibility across the litigation lifecycle. Responsibilities include managing matters from inception through resolution, drafting and responding to written discovery, preparing and arguing motions, taking and defending depositions, negotiating settlements, communicating directly with clients, and preparing matters for mediation and trial. The attorney may serve as first or second chair at trial when appropriate.

The practice includes civil defense litigation with approximately 50% tort litigation, including product liability, motor vehicle litigation, premises liability, insurance defense, and general civil litigation.

 

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Active Massachusetts Bar admission required
  • Rhode Island admission strongly preferred for junior candidates
  • New Hampshire or Connecticut admission is a plus
  • 3–6 years of civil litigation experience preferred
  • Prior law firm litigation experience required
  • Civil defense experience strongly preferred
  • Deposition, mediation, and trial experience preferred
  • Motion practice experience
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills
  • Strong oral advocacy and client communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage a busy litigation caseload
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of matters, and contribute to a collaborative team

 

Compensation

  • $100,000–$150,000, depending on experience
  • Discretionary merit-based bonus

Schedule & Work Arrangement

  • The position is Monday through Friday and initially onsite. After onboarding, a hybrid schedule is available with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote. The position requires 1,800 annual billable hours.

 

Salary Range: $100,000–$150,000
